12BET News Update 12/29

Barcelona does not have a deal in place for Santos' Neymar, says vice president Jordi Cardoner

Barcelona vice president Jordi Cardoner has denied that the Catalans have agreed a deal with Santos for starlet Neymar to move to Camp Nou in 2014.

It was widely reported earlier this month that the reigning world, European and Spanish champion had paid 10 million euros to the Brazilian side to secure first refusal on the forward. There were also suggestions that the player could move to La Liga before the 2014 World Cup.

However, Cardoner insists that no agreement has been reached with Santos

"To my knowledge we did not pay 10m euros to have a preferential option for Neymar," he told RAC 1.

Cardoner also stated that Barca coach Josep Guardiola will have the final say on whether the highly-rated teenager will eventually make the switch to Camp Nou.

"If we’re talking about [Neymar] it is because he is a player considered qualified to be a part of this team, but our technicians will decide," the vice-president added.

The 19-year-old is considered one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and has already been capped 15 times by Brazil. However, he signed a new five-year contract with Santos earlier this year.
