Sevilla Vs Barcelona match preview

The last match between Sevilla and Barcelona saw Javi Varas keep the Catalans at bay with an outstanding performance between the sticks. Pep Guardiola's side was held to a goalless draw at Camp Nou. Sevilla slipped into the bottom half of the table after last weekend's shock defeat to Sporting Gijon. It now sits 11th on 33 points. Sevilla has scored nearly a third the amount of goals that Barcelona has notched up this season. The Catalans have netted 75 times and Michel Gonzalez's men have scored just 27 goals.

Lionel Messi scored his 50th goal of the season in Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Racing Santander last weekend. Cesc Fabregas and Lionel Messi have notched up an astounding 65 goals and 47 assists between them so far this season. The last time Barca lost to Sevilla was in a Copa del Rey encounter in 2010, when it lost 3-0 thanks to a Fredy Kanoute double and a strike from Luis Fabiano.

Ajax defender Van der Wiel edging closer towards comeback after three month injury layoff

The Netherlands international has been out of action since December 2011, but has seemingly recovered from a knock and is expected to rejoin the squad's practices

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has received some encouraging news from the treatment table as right-back Gregory van der Wiel is poised to return to the training pitch on Monday after a three-month injury lay-off, Voetbal International reports.

The Netherlands international sustained a groin injury in December 2011 and has not featured in an official game for the Eredivisie champions since the 4-0 league win at home over ADO Den Haag.Van der Wiel is now on his way back, though, and the 24-year-old is expected to take part in group training again next week.

Ajax are hopeful that the defender, who has made a total of 121 Eredivisie appearances for the club, could return to match action early next month, with the home game against Heracles on April 1 a realistic comeback date.Van der Wiel is continually being linked with a summer move to Valencia and has already agreed personal terms with the Liga side. Nevertheless, both clubs have yet to agree on a transfer fee. - http://www.goal.com

Getafe earn breathing space

Castro and Barrada secure victory over fellow strugglers

Getafe's hopes of avoiding relegation received a significant boost after a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Villarreal moved them five points clear of the Primera Liga drop zone.

Luis Garcia Plaza's men went into the game on a five-match winless slide that had threatened to throw them into the middle of a dogfight, but goals from Diego Castro and Abdelaziz Barrada mean they now have some breathing space. Villarreal, highly fancied at the start of the season, but still to recover from the loss of Giuseppe Rossi to injury, are three points above the bottom three, but should have taken more from this match.

They did equalise through Nilmar's penalty, but, having already missed one through Borja Valero, the Yellow Submarine may well consider this to be a chance missed. With a three-game winless run of their own hanging over them, Jose Francisco Molina's side were always likely to start quickly and so it proved, with Cani working Miguel Moya from the edge of the box.

They were unable to get any momentum, though, and the Azulones stunned them by taking a fifth-minute lead when Castro got on the end of Miku's pass and did the rest. - http://www.skysports.com

Villarreal CF Vs Getafe CF match preview

Villarreal defender Gonzalo Rodriguez believes a win against Getafe would be the perfect way to exorcise the ghosts of last week's shock loss to Real Zaragoza. Rock-bottom Zaragoza picked up only their fourth league win of the season after coming from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1 with two goals in the last five minutes.

A win tomorrow would see Villarreal climb above Getafe, who started the weekend two points and two places above their opponents. Getafe have picked up just two points from their last five games to slip towards the drop zone but coach Luis Garcia insists the situation is not yet critical for the Madrid-based club.
