Mourinho banned and fined for eye poke

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have handed Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho a two-match ban for poking Barcelona's assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye during the Spanish Super Cup.Vilanova has been given a one-game ban after reacting and slapping Mourinho during a mass brawl and both men have been fined €600. Real and Barca were fined €180 and €90 respectively. However, the suspensions meted out by the RFEF only apply to the Spanish Super Cup, which is the traditional curtain-raiser to the Spanish season between the La Liga champions and the Copa del Rey winner. An ill-tempered Super Cup second leg boiled over when Real defender Marcelo made a late tackle on Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas with the game at the Camp Nou, which Barcelona won 3-2 (5-4 aggregate), all but over.Marcelo, Real team-mate Mesut Ozil and Barca striker David Villa were all shown red cards in the ensuing melee and television cameras caught Mourinho jabbing his finger into Vilanova's eye during a huge scuffle.Barca's players accused Mourinho afterwards of wrecking Spanish football, while Real blamed the incident on provocations from Barcelona at the Nou Camp. Both clubs have ten days to lodge appeals.
