Chelsea clash good preparation for Clasico, claims Zubizarreta

The Blaugrana official has hinted that Saturday's must-win La Liga encounter with Real Madrid at Camp Nou ranks above their trip to London in terms of importance

Barcelona director of football Andoni Zubizarreta is viewing Wednesday night's Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Chelsea as ideal preparation for this weekend's crucial Clasico. The Blaugrana currently trail La Liga title rivals Real Madrid by four points at the summit of the standings and will host Los Blancos at Camp Nou on Saturday evening.

Consequently, while Barca are desperate to become the first side to successfully defend the European Cup since AC Milan in 1990, Zubizarreta has intimated that, as far as the next few days are concerned, the Catalans' primary goal is defeating Madrid rather than beating the Blues at Stamford Bridge, describing the trip to London as "good preparation for the Clasico. It's a high-octane week." Zubizarreta added, though, that with Real Madrid facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League's other semi-final tie, he is confident that the tournament decider on May 19 will be an all-Spanish affair.

"The Champions League has decreed that we will have a Clascio in the middle of a tie which will also allow us to play another Clasico in the final in Munich," he is quoted as saying bySport.

Barca's meeting with Chelsea gets under way at 20.45CET, with Bayern-Madrid kicking off in Munich at the same time the night before.
