Amidst reports of “sadness” at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo asserts that he remains focused on giving his best for the club, denying allegations that he is pushing for improvements in his current contract.
While Real Madrid promised to issue an official statement soon to resolve the matter, Ronaldo announced that he will start thinking “only about my club” after coming from international duty with the Portugal national team. He noted that he would concentrate on earning victory in all matches without anything pertaining to contracts in his mind.
The star striker sparked headlines when he remarked that he is “unhappy” at Real Madrid due to professional circumstances. His disappointment was obvious when he did not execute his usual goal celebrations after scoring twice in their 3-0 win against Granada in La Liga.
When first asked on the reasons for his sadness, Ronaldo claimed that only those inside Real Madrid know why. The Telegraph reported that the striker has two concerns in mind – one about the club’s support for his Ballon d’Or bid and the other on extending his stay at the club beyond 2015.
There were reports that Ronaldo is scanning through offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala. Real Madrid Jose Mourinho denied those claims and expressed his confidence that the striker will remain with them.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will begin their post-international break La Liga run without some of their key players. UEFA Best Player in Europe Award recipient Andres Iniesta sustained an injury in his right adductor muscle while playing in Spain’s 1-0 World Cup qualifiers win over Georgia.
Iniesta will miss two club games against Getafe in the Spanish top league and Spartak Moskva in the Champions League. The midfielder earlier suffered a thigh injury while playign against tough oponnent Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
Iniesta’s club and national teammate Jordi Alba contracted flu and may not appear for the club on Saturday. He played for Spain in a Saudi Arabia friendly and World Cup qualifier against Georgia.
